1-75
Term:
A state senator holds office for four years beginning on the first day of January after their election.
A state representative holds office for two years beginning
on the first day of January after their election.
Qualifications:
To be eligible for the Utah Legislature a person must:
a) be a U.S.
Citizen at the time of filing
b) 25 years
old at the filing deadline time
c) Three-year
resident of Utah at the filing deadline time
d) Be a resident
for 6 months of the senate or representative district from which elected at
the filing deadline time
e) No person
holding any public office of profit or trust under authority of the United
States, or of this State, shall be a member of the Legislature;
f) be a qualified
voter.
Qualified
voter:
1)
U.S. Citizen
2) a resident of Utah for at least 30 days prior to the next election
3)
at least 18 years old by the next election
4)
their principal place of residence is in a specific voting precinct in Utah
Filing:
Any person intending to run for a seat in the Utah Legislature
must file a declaration of candidacy with the county clerk's office of the
county in which they reside or with the Office of Lieutenant Governor.
Filing
Fee:
1/8 of 1% of the total salary for the full term of office legally
paid to the person holding the office.
Utah Senator: $26.30* Utah Representative: $13.20*

A legislative candidate is not required to have a personal
campaign committee. A candidate should
deposit any contributions or public service assistance into one or
