President and Vice President

 

Current Office Holders:

(R) George W. Bush, President

(R) Dick Cheney, Vice President

January 2001-January 2009

 

Term:

The president and vice president hold office for four years beginning on the twentieth of January

after the election.   They may hold office for two terms (8 years).

 

Qualifications:

To be eligible for president or vice president a person must:

     a) be 35 years of age or older at the time the oath of office is taken

     b) be a natural born U.S. Citizen

     c) be a 14 years resident within the United States

 

Filing:

Any person interested in becoming a candidate for this office must file a declaration of candidacy with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

 

Candidates who wish to run for president as an "unaffiliated" candidate (not affiliated with a party) must gather 1000 signatures from registered voters in Utah. Signatures must be verified by the county clerks and submitted to the Lt. Governor's Office.  The candidate must submit a declaration of candidacy and the completed petitions by March 17, 2008..

  

Candidates who wish to run for president and affiliate with a party that does not have ballot status in Utah must obtain 2000 signatures from Utah voters who wish to affiliate with the new party.  These petitions must be turned in by February 15, 2008.
